Privacy

The short version

checkweather.io sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no accounts. There is nothing to opt into and nothing to opt out of. We do not build a profile of you, and we have nothing to sell or share. The only information we hold about you is what you type into a comment yourself, and that is covered below.

Third parties your browser contacts

A web page cannot load without the servers that serve it seeing your IP address. On this site those are:

• Cloudflare hosts and serves the pages, so it processes the request that delivers them.
• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) serves the two typefaces the site uses, which means Google sees the request for those font files.
• Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) is called from your browser to fetch the live forecast shown on city pages.
• RainViewer serves the radar tiles on radar pages.

Each of those sees a normal web request. None of them receives anything we have collected about you.

Comments and the "Was this useful?" vote

Every guide carries a vote button and a comment box. Both are optional, and the rest of the page works without them.

• Comments: we store the name and the text you type, plus the date. Both are published under the guide for everyone to read, so do not put anything sensitive in the box.
• The vote: we store a count only. We do not record which way you personally voted, beyond the fingerprint described next.
• Spam control: to keep bots and repeat votes out, we store a one-way hash (SHA-256) of your IP address combined with the name of the page. The hash cannot be turned back into an IP address.
• Deletion: ask us on the contact page and we will remove your comment.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in a working, spam-free discussion, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Location

If you use a feature that asks for your location, your browser asks you first and the coordinates are used only to look up the nearest place. They are not sent to us or stored.

We link to national weather services and other sites. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy terms apply, not ours.
